OAK HILL - The Oak Hill Animal Hospital is asking the community to help out our four-legged shelter friends.

The hospital is holding the Merry Mutts and Christmas Kitties Shelter Supply Drive through Friday to benefit the New River Humane Society. The shelter needs items such as: food, litter, pet beds, collars/leashes, litter pans, crates/carriers and food bowls.

So far, organizers have collected nearly 480 pounds of dog food, nearly 220 pounds of cat food, 146 pounds of kitty litter and $920. They have also received treats, toys and bedding.

“These animals are suffering if we're not there to help them out,” explained Dr. Mindy Osborne. “By people donating, it saves a life.”

Folks who donate money will get a spot on the Wall of Paws. Each donation gets a raffle ticket to win prizes. Prizes include: a six month supply of Vectra 3D (a topical flea control product); a free spay/neuter; gift certificates to New River Grooming, Dirty Ernie’s, Diogi’s and Cathedral Café; and more.

The drawing will be on Saturday and the winners will be notified by phone.
