BLUEFIELD - Both Northbound lanes between mile marker one and nine on Interstate 77 in Mercer County were closed until 5:00 p.m. Tuesday.
State Division of Highways spokeswoman Carrie Bly said the closure was necessary to address a slipping hillside near mile marker three. Bly said crews removed rocks by prying them out with a device similar to an airbag to knock boulders loose.
A detour was in place off of Exit 1 to U.S. 52, U.S. 460, and back on I-77 at Exit 9.
