FLAT TOP - Tons of snow is awaiting the arrival of visitors on the first official day of a Raleigh County ski resort season.

Winterplace Ski Resort in Flat Top opened its doors Friday to skiers and snowboarders anticipating the winter season. Employees told Newswatch they've made plenty of synthetic snow, which creates conditions perfect for learning to ski.

"You can ski, you can snowboard, you can snowtube," said Terry Pfeiffer of Winterplace Ski Resort. "We've got restaurant facilities here, we've got rental equipment, we got fantastic ski instructors and best of all, we've got lots of snow right now."

On Friday, 17 trails and six lifts were open while workers prepared the snowtubing park.

"It was really fun," Cindy Min told WOAY. "We actually just came for the day because it's finals week for us, but we wanted to take it off for a little bit and then come."

Sallie Kim, also from Blacksburg, was snowboarding with her.

"We've been waiting for the season for like the whole entire year, so we're really excited for the season," Sallie Kim said.
