BECKLEY - When sending Christmas cards, most families choose to include their pets as part of the family

The Raleigh County Animal Shelter held its second annual 'Santa Paws' photo shoot Saturday at The Humane Society in Beckley. The event allows folks to bring in their pets to get a family Christmas picture taken and proceeds benefit the shelter.

Adoption Counselor, Joyce Stover, said the event was such a hit last year that they have decided to run Santa Paws again this year and extend it. The shelter is also offering an adoption special for those who attend the Santa Paws event.

Stover said the event allows the public to give to the shelter and get what they came for. "A lot of people love having their pictures taken with their dogs and with their cats. People come up here just to have the pictures made. It is a time for giving and they know that; the public knows that the shelter has been in dire need of expenses for our medical fund and just running the shelter," said Stover.

Sunday afternoon the Santa Paws event will take place from 1 -4 in the Beckley Plaza Mall.
