BECKLEY - A volunteer Fire Department decided to give back to their community for the holiday.

The Ghent Volunteer Firefighters showed their charitable spirit Saturday at the Sams Club in Beckley. They have been continuously collecting toys, food and monetary donations since the start of December and plan to continue throughout the Christmas season.

Chief Rick Morrison said the guys all decided one day to do something to help out, and the idea grew quickly into the toy and food drive. Morrison said they want to give back to the community that they strongly belong to.

"We are the community. They are the ones that support us and they are the ones that supply the funds that allows us to do this job and we are the ones that they look to when they have a problem. Whatever it is they're going to call the Fire Department. So it's important for us to stay connected with them," said Morrison.

The Ghent Fire Department is also raffling off a 22 Rifle on December 20th. Proceeds will go towards their Christmas charity.
