BECKLEY - No matter the weather, Beckley's annual Christmas parade is still on for Saturday afternoon.

This year's theme is A West Virginia Christmas, in honor of the sesquicentennial, according to organizers. More than 35 floats will be in the parade, which begins at 1 p.m. and loops through downtown.

Coordinator Julian Chipley believes the parade kicks off the holiday season. “It gets people out and it makes for the beginning of the Christmas season,” he said.

Santa will ride in a sleigh float at the end of the parade. An awards ceremony for the best floats and participants will follow the parade.
