WELCH - A McDowell County man was arrested after troopers say he confessed to beating up an elderly man early Tuesday morning.
Michael England, 25, of Elkhorn Bottom, was charged with robbery, burglary, petit larceny, assault, battery, and trespassing. Sgt. A.P. Christian said that England gave a full confession after he was arrested.
The incident happened in between 2:00 and 2:30 a.m in the Algoma area. The victim told investigators he heard a knock at the door, and when he opened it, he was hit in the face. The suspect then took off with the victim's money. Christian said that the victim knew the suspect because the accused had done yard work for him. The victim was taken to Bluefield Regional Medical Center for treatment.
England was booked in the McDowell County Holding Facility in lieu of $50,000 bond. We're told he was on home confinement, but that has since been revoked.
Troopers said they believed drugs were the motive in this crime.
