BECKLEY - A commission meeting on December 3rd sparked some objection to a proposed consolidation of three PSDs.
Beginning stages of consolidation for the Shady Spring/Flat Top, Glen White and Glen Daniels Service Districts was discussed today at a Raleigh County Commission meeting. Officials said that after exploring the option in the past, this seems to be the best decision economically for the people of Raleigh County.
Not all audience members were for the motion and the issue of consolidation will be revisited at a public hearing on January 7th.
"This has not been something that was an overnight decision. We have discussed this, for the last year about how we could save money so we've decided that the best possible way to save money for the people of Raleigh County is combining them into one. All your major companies, electric company, gas company they're regionalizing all of their offices and that's what we're trying to do," said Commissioner Dave Tolliver.
A public hearing will be held to discuss this, along with other issues, in order to get feedback from the citizens of Raleigh County before any decision is made.
