BECKLEY- Often veterans return home to the United States but don't have a house or anyone to fall back on. The Raleigh County Community Action is working to change that.
They are helping veterans who are homeless or are at risk of being homeless by providing them with services such as finding a house, paying deposit and other necessary fees to help them get on their feet. Raleigh, Fayette, Nicholas and Wyoming County affiliates of the program gathered to discuss plans.
"If a veteran comes in and he is homeless, basically living in an emergency shelter or car or an abandoned building, someplace not meant for human habitation, we can get them housing, basically a linkage of a partner in helping them become stabilized," said Housing Director Kimberly Canterbury.
