WASHINGTON, D.C. - Sen. Joe Manchin made a personal phone call Wednesday to a Nicholas County first grader after he received a letter that asked for his help.

The letter read:

"Dear Sir,

My name is Sophie Mullins.  I live in Craigsville, West Virginia.  I am in the first grade at Gauley River Grade School.  All we do is work, work, work.  I need a break.  Can you please help?

In Manchin's call to Sophie, he encouraged her to continue working hard in school because receiving a good education is the best way for all young students to succeed when they grow up.
