BECKLEY - Education officials are asking folks across southern West Virginia to wear blue Wednesday to raise awareness about bullying.

It's all part of Bullying Prevention Week, sponsored by District 1 of the Regional Education Service Agencies (RESA 1). Students, teachers and locals are asked to take part in Blue Shirt Day to show support for bullying victims and advocates.

Officials believe Blue Shirt Day is a great way to raise awareness about bullying. “This is a really way for those bystanders to become upstanders,” explained Selina Vickers, adolescent health initiative coordinator for RESA 1.

Vickers said she hopes Bullying Prevention Week teaches students that they have a voice and can make a difference.
