BECKLEY – Several automotive groups were recognized by the Raleigh County Solid Waste Authority (RCSWA) on America Recycles Day for incorporating recycling into their businesses.

RCSWA Director of Education Sherrie Hunter congratulated workers at the Beckley Auto Mall for recycling. The Hometown Automotive Group, Beckley Auto Mall and King Coal Chevrolet started a comprehensive recycling program at the end of the summer. The dealerships recycled 1,620 pounds of materials in less than one month.

Dealer Operator Lori Davis explained how workers have incorporated recycling into their lives. “We plan on continuing recycling - once we've made the commitment, it will just be part of our culture going forward,” she said.

Hunter encouraged others to also take the pledge and recycle more. “Once you start recycling, it becomes second nature to you because you know what is trash and you know what recycling is.”

Each employee took part in an in-service training about recycling and the associated benefits before starting the program.
