WHIPPLE - Three more schools in southern West Virginia now offer behavioral health services at their New River Health school-based health centers.
New River Elementary, Mount Hope Elementary and Independence High School began providing mental health services at the start of the school year.
New River Health’s school health program consists of nine school-based centers that serve twelve schools across southern West Virginia, providing clinical primary and preventative care as well as dental services.
New River Health’s School Health Director Celli Van Dyke said it is efficient to have the clinics at the schools. “They don't have to miss half a day or a full day of school to go get their exams,” she said.
New River Health's school health program has been around since the 1980s and their first school-based health site surfaced in 1994.
