MORGANTOWN - West Virginia University hospitals are facing a $25 million loss under the implementation of the Affordable Care Act. The news came out during a board of governors meeting when Health Sciences Chancellor Christopher Colenda updated the board on the federal health care law's impact on West Virginia. Much of this loss will be taken at hospitals like Ruby Memorial Hospital, which was receiving money for serving as safety nets for the uninsured. Under the Affordable Care Act, those funds were taken away. Medicaid increases and insured patients were expected to offset this loss, but Colenda says that most likely will not be the case.
