BECKLEY - The Cline Family Foundation is donating $250,000 to a local family services agency to help around 40 kids have a place of worship.
Candice Cline announced Thursday that the money will be given to the Burlington United Methodist Family Services to help build a chapel at the Beckley campus.
Sheila Walker, the chief operations officer of the center, said the chapel will give the children a place to worship and also be a space for activities and offices. She said the donation helped make building the chapel possible. "It gets us to our goal of getting the kids in an actual chapel instead of the basement," Walker explained.
Cline Family Foundation officials are challenging the community to match their donation. They announced that the Greg and Darlene Darby Family Trust and Little General Stores are donating a combined $100,000 toward the cause.
Construction of the chapel is already underway.
