BECKLEY - A local church in Beckley is filling shoe boxes with items we use everyday to help needy kids have a better Christmas.

The First Baptist Church is filling shoe boxes with toothpaste, soap, wash clothes and other items for Operation Christmas Child. The boxes will be sent to Africa, South America, Asia and Europe to needy kids who do not have the use of these items everyday. Organizers say even one shoebox can make a difference.

"One of our young ladies said this morning that she likes making boxes because she like to know she's making a difference in a child's life," said Debbie Vanaman. "A shoebox can make a difference in a child's life because, after it leaves here it goes down to Charlotte and Boone and they put a small testament in there and it can be read by the child in their own language."

They packed 60 boxes and encourage people to keep donating to fill more.
