OAK HILL - Saturday marks the end of Daylight Savings Time, and officials are recommending you do a few things besides just changing your clock. It is also a good time to change your smoke detector batteries, perform maintenance on all furnaces, fire places, and chimneys, and make sure you are burning seasoned wood in fireplaces. Officials also say to establish exit plans for your home. These steps can prevent a lot of the fires brought on by the winter season. Oak Hill Fire Department Chief Tim Richardson also says if a fire does start in your home, be sure to call 9-1-1 instead of trying to put it out.
