BECKLEY - A captain at the Beckley Fire Department who is retiring soon reminisced about his experience.
Gary Raines, 62, will work his last shift Saturday, after nearly 39 years with the department. Chief Billie Trump said Raines has been a fixture there for years and he will be missed. “Not having him in the fire department is like part of your family is missing, but on the other hand… it's a perfect time for him to be able to retire and enjoy all of those things,” said Trump
Raines describes his fellow firefighters as a brotherhood and said it will be sad to leave them. “It's time to retire and some young man will get a job and hopefully he'll be here 39 years,” Raines said.
Raines looks forward to spending time with his family and exploring the outdoors.
