HERNDON - A structure fire in Herndon destroys a home that has been in a family for generations.
Dispatch says the fire took place off Ivydale Lane. The Mullens and Pineville Fire Departments responded to the scene. The house was a guest house for when family visits and was unoccupied at the time of the fire and nobody was injured. The Mullens Fire Department explains that they used all their water to put out the fire but had to trek about 4 miles to find a working fire hydrant for a source of water to finish the job.
"We had enough water to knock the fire down but didn't have enough water to completely douse it, so we went looking for a fire hydrant and the first one we found wouldn't work so we ended up going about 4 miles off the mountain and found a hydrant and re-filled the trucks, so everything is under control and nobody's hurt," said Mullens Public Information Officer.
The cause of the fire is not determined and is still under investigation.
