BECKLEY - Around 400 middle school students in Beckley walked and danced as part of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Park Middle School hosted its fourth annual Walk for a Cure on Thursday. Students paid $1 to participate in the survivor walk with two faculty members who survived cancer.

Health and Physical Education Teacher Angela Culicerto, who helped organize the event with the Student Council, said since most people have been affected by cancer in some way, they wanted to raise awareness about research and treatment in hopes that “lives can be saved.”

Laken Wallace, vice president of the Student Council, hopes students learned that breast cancer should not be taken lightly. “It's something that you need to know about and you need to be able to help prevent - and help find a cure for,” she said.

Half of the contributions will go to the American Cancer Society and the other half will go to the Student Council.
