SUMMERSVILLE - Summersville Lake will be lowered to a level that's 55 feet below the normal winter pool in order to allow for basic maintenance and inspection of the intake gates.
Officials with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers said that it should reach the desired level on November 4th. They expect it to stay that way for about two weeks.
All winter boat launching areas at the lake will be closed during the extended drawdown and will reopen once the water levels are brought back to normal. The corps asked all visitors to keep a safe distance from the intake structure during the work. It also wanted to remind folks that walking or climbing on the intake structure and driving vehicles through the lake are prohibited.
