CHARLESTON - The Department of Health and Human Resources' Oral Health Program received a five-year grant to provide preventative dental services in school-based settings.
DHHR Secretary Karen Bowling said the money came from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. $1.5 million will be spread over five years. The money will be used to implement a program that applies clear dental sealants to students in 109 schools over the life of the project.
State Dental Director Dr. Jason Roush said those kids might not otherwise receive preventative dental services.
The Oral Health Program works with the state Department of Education, local dental providers, and community partners on the project.
