WELCH - Catholic Charities West Virginia planned to offer a mentoring program for at-risk kids at a McDowell County middle school.
The organization received a grant from Catholic Charities USA for the program. It's set to begin this fall at Mount View Middle School in Welch. Coordinator Jami Clark said that the school has targeted several youth considered to be "at risk" who have shown the ability to overcome life's challenges.
The program will initially focus on sixth graders. It's a partnership with the school, Reconnecting McDowell, and the county school system.
