WAYNESBORO, Va. - The remains of a Virginia woman who disappeared in 2002 are being returned to her family in the Philippines.
The Waynesboro Police Foundation exceeded it's goal to raise $6,000 to send Karen Tait's remains to her family for burial. Any leftover money will be used to set up an education fund for Tait's teenage daughter. The foundation said the daughter is living with relatives elsewhere in the United States.
Tait's body was found in 2002 in the Greenbrier State Forest. She wasn't listed as missing until 2011 and her body wasn't identified until the fall of 2012.
Her husband, Thomas Neal Tait, 53, pleaded guilty to second-degree murder in February. He's serving a 30 year sentence.
