WVU Men's Soccer To Host High Point

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (October 14, 2013) - The West Virginia University men’s soccer team will face non-conference foe High Point on Tuesday, Oct. 15, at Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.

West Virginia (5-6-1, 1-2 MAC) is looking to get back to winning ways after dropping a 1-0 decision at Hartwick last Friday evening. WVU outshot the Hawks 14-2, including three shots by sophomore Majed Osman.

Junior Andy Bevin continues to lead WVU and the Mid-American Conference with 18 points (6 goals, 6 assists). Nationally, he ranks No. 13 in assists, No. 22 in points and No. 31 in goals.

Osman has five goals and five assists for 15 points, while senior Craig Stephens and sophomores Jamie Merriam and Ryan Cain have two goals apiece.

Junior goalkeeper Lee Johnston is 5-4-1 with a 1.44 goals-against average this season. He has made 26 saves and posted two shutouts.

High Point (4-6-1) features one of the nation’s top goal scorers in junior Mamadee Nyepon. Nyepon is ranked No. 2 in goals (10) and No. 4 in points (22) nationally. He has scored at least one goal in seven games this season and has three multi-goal matches.

Sophomore Austin Yearwood leads the team in assists with six, while sophomore Erien Campbell and freshman Pat Shelton rank No. 2 on the team with three goals apiece.

Sophomore Kody Palmer will likely get the start in goal. Palmer is 3-2-0 with a 1.71 goals-against average in six games. He has allowed nine goals and has made 15 saves.

Coach Dustin Fonder is in his seventh season at High Point and has a career record of 64-53-14.

This will be the second meeting between the teams. The Mountaineers defeated the Panthers 1-0 in 2002.
