SHADY SPRING – Sam’s Club awarded $1,000 to Shady Spring Elementary School for their recycling efforts.

The Raleigh County Solid Waste Authority and Sam’s Club recognized Shady Spring Elementary for being the school with the most exemplary recycling program. Sam's Club awarded 20 teachers $50 gift cards to go toward purchasing school supplies as part of their Teacher Rewards Program.

Sherrie Hunter with the Raleigh County Solid Waste Authority hopes this recognition encourages students to continue their eco-friendly habits. “I want them to recycle properly, but more importantly I want them to know that they shouldn't put things on the ground and litter,” Hunter explained.

Shady Spring Elementary School's Recycling Program was deemed the most consistently well-compacted recycling bin during the first six weeks of school.
