UPDATE: An elderly woman with dementia who had been missing since early Wednesday morning was found safe.
Officials with the Bluefield Police Department said that Edna Thompson, 84, was tired, but doing well. Thompson was reported missing after she left her Greenbrier Street home at around 4:00 a.m.
Two K-9's, five officers, and folks from the neighborhood all helped in the search.
BLUEFIELD - Police in Bluefield are searching for an elderly woman with dementia who walked away from her home early Wednesday morning.
Lt. G.W. Lightsoot said that Edna Thompson, 84, has been missing since 4:00 a.m. when she walked away from her house on Greenbrier Street. Lightsoot said that Thompson was uses a cane and was wearing a red rag on her head, blue jeans with pin stripes, a blue jacket, and white slippers at the time.
He said that two K-9's, five additional police officers, and folks from the neighborhood helping in the search.
Officials believe she could be in danger because of her age and medical history. Anyone who knows her whereabouts is asked to call 911 or the Bluefield Police Department at (304)-327-6101.
