MOSSY - A suspicious fire is under investigation in Fayette County.

911 dispatchers tell Newswatch the call came in just before 4 p.m. Tuesday of a two story structure fire. Nobody lived at the home which was located in the Mossy area on Paint Creek Road and 612 near the Exxon gas station there. Firefighters on scene say the house was being torn down and you could smell diesel so it appears to be arson.

"It was in all three floors, it was in the basement, first floor and second floor, when we got here the fire was mostly on the backside of the house, started in the back porch had a strong smell of diesel fuel, so it's an abandoned house somebody just wanted it gone," said Assistant Pax Fire Chief Josh Johnson.

The fire remains under investigation.
