WASHINGTON D.C. - The government shutdown continues, but one U.S. senator has decided to go without pay until the standoff is resolved. Senator Joe Manchin announced Friday that he will donate the salary he receives during the shutdown to the Save the Children charity here in West Virginia. The organization has started several programs across the Mountain State that focus on early success in school through language, social and emotional development. Manchin says it is essential that all children get the best educational opportunities available.
