OAK HILL - State Police need the public’s help with finding a woman who is writing checks from a stolen checkbook.

Trooper J. L. Milam said a car was broken into in the Cotton Hill area of Fayette County and a purse was stolen around August 7. Since then, a woman believed to be in her early to mid-30’s has been using checks at stores in West Virginia and Kentucky.

The checks were used at Walmart stores in Fayetteville and Beckley, Lowe’s in Fayetteville, and Kroger stores in Barboursville and Ashland, Ky.

Troopers believe the suspect may be a local resident. “She's used the checks more in this area than any other area, so we're thinking she may be from somewhere around this local area,” Milam explained.

The suspect is wanted for questioning. Anyone with information is asked to call State Police in Oak Hill at 304-469-2915.
