PAX - An unoccupied home was destroyed by a late-night fire in Fayette County.

Dispatchers said that it happened at around 11:24 Monday night at a two-story house on Pax Branch Road.  Fire officials don't know how the fire started, but said it was suspicious.

Mary Terry said her aunt owned the home before she passed away three years ago, and they've had issues with people breaking in and stealing her belongings.  "I hope to God whoever done that, they catch him, or at least turn themselves in," Terry said.

Mount Hope Fire Chief Shane Wheeler said they ruled it's cause suspicious.  "It was an abandoned structure fire with no power source," he said.

No injuries were reported and it's cause remained under investigation.
