UPDATE: Officials explain why they pursued incest charges for Nicolas Co. stepfather and stepdaughter

MOUNT NEBO - A Nicholas County man and his stepdaughter have been charged with incest based on the definition of “daughter” in state law, according to county authorities.

Even though Kelcey Nicholas, 28, and Lataura Jarrett, 21, are not related by blood and both are above the legal age of consent, but officials said Jarrett has referred to Nicholas as "father." Officials researched state law regarding incest and consulted with the county prosecutor before arresting them.

Nicholas is in Central Regional Jail on $70,000 bond and Jarrett was released on $35,000 bond.

MOUNT NEBO - Deputies in Nicholas County went to arrest a man for violating his home confinement when they stumbled upon a case of incest.

According to Sheriff David Hopkins, deputies went to serve a warrant on Kelcey Nmi Nicholas, 28, of Mount Nebo, when they noticed what they called "inappropriate conduct" between Nicholas and his step-daughter, Lataura Jarrett, 21.

Officials said that Nicholas and Jarrett's mother had been married for the past five years and that both admitted to having sex with each other at least seven times since mid-July.

Jarrett was released on $35,000 bond, while Nicholas was lodged in Central Regional Jail on $70,000 bond.

SUMMERSVILLE - A Nicholas County man was arrested for incest.

Kelcey Nmi Nicholas, 29, faces charges of capias and incest. Nicholas is being held Central Regional Jail on $70,000 bond for the incest charge, according to jail officials. He was booked there Thursday.
