FAYETTEVILLE - A Deep Water man pleaded not guilty to charges of sexual abuse.

Johnnie Berry, 52, of Deep Water is charged with eight counts of sexual abuse in the first degree and four counts of sexual abuse by a parent, guardian, custodian or person in a position of trust.

A report concerning the alleged sexual molestation of a minor was received through the child protective services division of the DHHR on May 30, according to Fayette County Sheriff Steve Kessler. Through their investigation, deputies learned the child was living in Berry's home at the time of the alleged incident.

Berry appeared in front of Judge Paul Blake, Jr. at the Fayette County Courthouse on Friday morning. He was earlier released on $25,000 bond.

Berry is scheduled to appear in front of a public jury on November 22 at 9 a.m.
