FAYETTEVILLE - Organizers are preparing for a walk Saturday to raise money for a child with cancer.
The second annual Izzy's Walk in Fayetteville is in memory of Izzy McManaway, a four-year-old who died last year from cancer. Proceeds will benefit Timmy's Fund, which helps families in West Virginia who have children battling cancer. Timmy's Fund will give the donations to Logan Harper, 9, of Ansted, who has Hodgkin's lymphoma.
In addition to the walk, there will also be a 5-k run, inflatables, food, a K-9 demonstration from the Sheriff's Department and a balloon release.
The Fayetteville Junior Women's Club is organizing the fundraiser. Organizers said they hope to raise awareness about childhood cancer. "Izzy touched so many people and we just want to keep her memory alive and do something to honor her," said Jessica Hames.
Registration begins at 9 a.m. Saturday at the park in Fayetteville. The walk begins at 10:30 a.m. and events will continue through about 2 p.m. The registration fee is $25 per walker.
