PLATEAU - A mobile home caught fire in Fayette County and was completely destroyed.

Dispatchers said it happened at around 7:00 a.m. Thursday at a trailer on Mitchell Lane in Plateau.  Neighbors said that the couple who owned the mobile home was in the process of moving from that trailer to a home they just finished building behind it.

"I got out of bed and looked out the window and seen the trailer burning, so I got up real quick and ran over here," said Charles Shaver.

Firefighters said that it was almost already fully involved when they arrived.  "The trailer was involved about three-fourths.  It had another structure behind it the family was keeping the fire off of it.  They did have some siding melt and things like that," said Oak Hill Assistant Fire Chief Robert Begley, "(we did) an interior attack and knocked it down pretty quick except for a gas line that's leaking."

Begley also said that they will be calling the Sheriff's Department to investigate the fire's cause.
