CHARLESTON - The state's seasonally adjusted unemployment rate increased slightly in August to 6.3%.

Workforce West Virginia said the number of unemployed residents rose by 700 to 49,600 last month.  The August rate was a full percentage point below the nation's average, and is up by 0.1% from July.

Mining, logging, and construction jobs showed an increase in employment, while manufacturing jobs were down.
