HINTON - Three Summers County fire departments extinguished a fire that destroyed a house in Hinton Tuesday.
The fire began around 10:30 a.m. and quickly engulfed the house on Esquire Cemetary Road. No one was home at the time. Hinton, Jumping Branch and Summers County Fire Departments responded to the scene. They fought the fire for about four hours.
Homeowner Brian Grimmett said he is trying to cope with the situation. "Just let it go day by day is all I know," he said. "It's the only thing I can do."
Grimmett thinks someone may have set fire to the house, but firefighters said there is no reason to believe it was an act of arson.
Firefighters said the house was very close to several propane tanks. They were unable to use fire hydrants because of the home's rural location.
