BLUEFIELD - Dozens of people in Bluefield paid tribute to first responders and remembered those who died in the September 11, 2001 attacks.

The city of Bluefield held a Patriot Day Remembrance Ceremony this afternoon at Chicory Square.

Master Sergeant Jeffrey Neal of the U.S. Army said he is grateful for the local recognition. "I just really appreciate the community service and their support to us," Neal said. "It's always wonderful to be recognized, although the true meaning of being here today is to recognize those who have sacrificed much more." Neal served in Iraq twice.

Vice Mayor Barbara Smith said those who died in the terrorist attack and the first responders will never be forgotten. "We will continue this tradition and let them know that we were proud of what they did for us."

This is the eighth year the city held a 9-11 memorial ceremony.
