BECKLEY - A nonprofit group that helps children with sexual abuse receives a special grant today from the American Electric Power Foundation.
Just for kids, Inc. received a $25,000 grant award from the power company's foundation. American Electric Power Foundation focuses on giving grants to help improving lives through education from early childhood through higher education, as well as basic human services. Just For Kids, Inc. executive director Scott Miller explains how important this grant is to the nonprofit group.
"Just for kids, because we're a nonprofit organization only about half of our funds come from state funding so we have to rely on organizations like AEP to support the work that we do in the community," said Miller.
"It's just a good corporate partner and the communities that we serve and that's the reason giving back is the communities that we serve," said AEP representative David Langford.
Just For Kids, Inc. also trains teachers in Raleigh County on how to detect child sexual abuse.
