BEAVER - Thirty-five kids from across southern West Virginia competed in a rodeo Saturday and Sunday.

The West Virginia High School Rodeo Team (WVHSRT) held the weekend rodeo at the Raleigh County Horseman's Association in Beaver. Kids of all ages competed.

WVHSRT Coach Billy Pate said the rodeo promotes both the spirit of the west and team-building. "It's just amazing how people help each other and rally around to make sure that all contestants are ready to do their best," said Pate.

Shady Spring Rodeo Team Captain and West Virginia High School Rodeo Association (WVHSRA) Secretary Emily Parent, a tenth-grader, said horses have been her passion since she was 2 years-old. She explained the rodeo brings team members together. "It's just great sportsmanship for all of us," Parent said.
