MONTGOMERY - $617,500 was given to Bridgemont Community and Technical College to give scholarships to students in it's applied and engineering technology programs.
The money came from a National Science Foundation program that provided grants to colleges and universities to promote those areas of study.
U.S. Senator Jay Rockefeller said the so-called STEM studies offered tremendous promise for young West Virginians, while Sen. Joe Manchin said the programs are essential to compete in the global marketplace.
Congressman Nick Rahall called the money an investment in "young minds."
