CHARLESTON - More than $93,000 in grant money was given to the state Department of Education to cover a portion of the fees charged to low-income students taking advanced placement tests.
The money was part of almost $29 million awarded to 42 states from the U.S. Department of Education.
The grant payments are based on the anticipated number of test-takers, and several other factors.
Federal education officials said the money should be enough to cover all but $10 of the cost for each AP exam taken by a low-income student.
