MT. HOPE - The Mt. Hope Municipal Stadium, also known as the "Castle" hasn't been used in years. Now one man is getting the community together to change that.
Stewart Payne played in the stadium growing up and wants to see the stadium come back to life. The walls are crumbling and is need of some repairs. A store in Mt. Hope shows pictures of the teams and history that accompanies the stadium from years past. Payne tells Newswatch he wants to re-purpose the stadium for more than just football teams.
"Aside from just playing here, but being a resident of Mt. Hope, it would mean a lot to me to have Mt. Hope be what it was when I was a kid. There are a lot of fond memories growing up in Mt. Hope. It's a special place for anybody who has been here and it would be nice to have this city thriving again," said Payne.
Payne now resides in California but said he would love for more people to get involved.
