MOUNT HOPE - A Fayette County mayor received a statewide honor after his colleagues nominated him for an award.
Mount Hope Mayor Michael Martin said he was chosen from officials throughout the state for the West Virginia Municipal League Mayor of the Year award.
Martin has served Mount Hope over the last 13 years and said he's extended a water line, paved Main Street and worked on a comprehensive plan.
“We, as they say, have to eat the elephant one bite at a time, and so we can only take on small projects, or we can take on large projects but just a piece at a time,” Martin said.
Martin said his biggest accomplishment was adding sidewalks and lighting to the city.
“It's what shows off the city more than anything else,” Mayor Michael Martin told WOAY. “I can extend a water line. I can extend a wastewater line, and we have done that as well but you can't see it.”
