LANSING - A New Jersey teenager in remission from cancer went whitewater rafting in Lansing Wednesday, thanks to the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
Bernadette Rutz, 16, said she wanted to do an adventurous family trip for her wish, since her family has been so supportive of her. Rutz was originally diagnosed with stage four Hodgkin's lymphoma last fall.
She said Make-A-Wish is helping her make the best of a difficult situation. “It makes you feel almost happier that you got sick,” she said. “It almost gives you a pick-me-up.”
Rutz remains optimistic about her condition now that she is recently in remission. Rutz and her family will be doing zip lining and paintball Thursday. They also went horseback riding Tuesday.
