BECKLEY – Panera Bread presented a $1,500 check Tuesday to
the United Way of Southern West Virginia.
Café representatives said customers donated the money as
part of Panera Bread's fundraiser initiatives. United Way Executive Director
Margaret Ann O’Neal said every donation helps, no matter how small. “The ability
for people to walk into Panera Bread, buy a cup of coffee and put their change
into that pot and then all of it goes together, really is the whole premise of
the United Way,” said O’Neal. “A lot of people doing a little bit to help a
whole lot of people.”
Part of the money was used recently to give 1,000 books
to children, according to O’Neal, and the rest will go toward the United Way’s
campaign goal of $525,000. Panera Bread will be accepting donations through the
end of September.
