BRENTON - A Wyoming County man was placed in Southern Regional Jail after he tried to break into a home while one of it's owners was inside.

Timothy Lane, 36, of Brenton, was charged with nighttime burglary after deputies said a woman found him attempting to get into her home through a sliding window at around 9:00 p.m. Monday.  They said that the woman continued to hit Lane with the flat side of a machete until he got out of her window.

According to the criminal complaint, the woman then went to the front door to lock it when he spotted her and started to walk in her direction.  That's when she opened the door holding a revolver and threatened to shoot him if he didn't leave.  Lane took off and was later arrested at his residence.

The victim's husband called the Sheriff's Department and told deputies that someone at the Brenton EZ Stop overheard Lane telling people that he was going to meet him at his home because he wouldn't give Lane rides or let him mow his hillside.

The incident remains under investigation.
