HINTON - Summers County Schools announced that it will become the first in the state to use a VGO robot in the classroom.
Thanks to a grant from the Hinton Area Foundation, the board was able to buy a robot to help a student who is unable to physically be in school. It's first recipient is third grader Ellie Rhodes. Last spring, Rhodes underwent a bone marrow transplant and is isolated to her home because of a compromised immune system as a result of the procedure. She will be able to operate the robot from home and has the ability to move freely around the school, attend class, and interact with her peers.
The robot will be displayed at the county board of education meeting on August 28.
