UPDATE - A Kanawha County man could face criminal charges after a head-on collision Tuesday night in Fayette County.
Deputies said the accident happened just after 11:00 p.m. on Route 16 in Hilltop. They said Clarence Coon, of Rand, claimed he swerved to avoid an animal in the roadway when he struck the vehicle driven by Michael Taylor, of Oak Hill.
Deputies checked Coon's license and found that it had been revoked because of a prior DUI conviction. They said Coon was also under the influence at the time of the crash.
Both drivers sustained injuries and were treated and released from Plateau Medical Center.
The Sheriff's Department anticipates that criminal charges will be filed against Coon later this week.
HILLTOP - A head on collision sends two people to the hospital in Fayette County Tuesday night.
The accident happened on Rt. 16, in Hilltop around 11pm. Deputies with the Fayette County Sheriff's Department say a man driving a truck swerved to avoid hitting a deer when he collided with an oncoming car in the southbound lane.
The driver of the truck and car were both taken to the hospital.
