BECKLEY - Teachers get more training before the school year starts and this training has to do with detecting child abuse.

Elementary teachers in Raleigh County Schools are being educated on how to handle child abuse. This workshop is put on by Just For Kids Inc. Yesterday high school teachers received that training and explain how helpful the workshops are.

"I feel as an educator that I see students more than their parents do sometimes. It's good for me to have this training so if I feel like something's wrong, I know what to do," said 10th grade teacher at Woodrow Wilson High School, Meghan Houck

"You know I didn't realize some of those things, or some of the kids might have to face when they come out and say these things and it can be scary and intimidating for them, and for them to be able to have somebody they can open up to and really say how they are feeling I think is really important," said 9th and 10th grade science teacher at Shady Spring High School, Stephan Cantley.

Tuesday is the last day of the child abuse workshops for the teachers.
